4★ Some pages back, I pointed out that my life was hardly Angela's Ashes, but at this point it did bear a passing resemblance to The Collector by John Fowles, that mesmerising portrait of a young person imprisoned by a weirdo. That was in Richard Glovers late teens in England. Richard Glover is familiar to Australians through his newspaper columns and radio shows, but until he wrote this /5.

Flesh Wounds is the third book in what amounts to a trilogy, the first in the series being Where the Bodies are Buried and the second When the Devil Drives; however, it could certainly be read on its own, and there is room at the end for the series to take a new direction/5().

Flesh Wounds is an amazing exploration of self and family. Intensely visual images of his childhood and of his resilient march through the teenage years -effectively alone. Then,later in life, a "Trip"like journey through England - armed with his wise partner, Debra, and the strength that comes from the love, life and family he made with her /5().

On the other hand, John Lawton's "Flesh Wounds" is a wonderful piece of his on-going Inspector Troy series, begun ten or so years ago. I reviewed for Vine Lawton's latest, "A Lily of the Field" a couple of weeks ago.
